Some laser companies are marketing a laser for the treatment of gum disease using the FDA 510k clearance a “me to” clearance. Millennium Dental used an ND;Yag laser to established through Human Histological science “New Cementum New Connective Tissue attachment to the Root surface in the absence of long junctional Epithelium” Other laser companies using different lasers (Co2 and Erbium) have received the same clearance. The FDA does not distinguish the tool that was used to create the results. This in my opinion is a concern because you can not achieve the same results using a different laser, it is physically impossible. It is as if I told you Red is Green or Blue is Yellow. The laser energy is absorbed in tissue differently. The most pathetic of these adds was in the American Academy of Periodontology add in their ” This week in Perio” The add said “Deep Pocket therapy with new attachment” and had a link to http://www.biolase.com/perio/ WOW How stupid do they think the AAP membership is? Well after 3 months of this add running Millennium Dental took out an add next to it that said “Deep Pocket Therapy with University based Peer Reviewed Published Human Histological Science”. HA! Take that Biolies!
